DroneAcharya word is made up of two separate words "Drone" which you already know, "Acharya" which means teacher in Hindi. Dronacharya was also the best archery teacher as per the Indian mythology (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drona) This is the worlds first drone gamification app that requires a real drone in order to play it. It is designed to help players enhance their drone piloting skills and at the same time compete against other pilots.
This app also demonstrates the true potential of APM2 flight controller in 3DR's Iris+ drone by accessing the telemetry data in real-time. For safety reasons in mind this app uses only one-way telemetry data transmission from drone and does not send any data or command back to drone.
This is world’s first app that mixes the fun and learning into a single bundle where drone pilots can take their flying skills to a next level. This app can be your companion when you are trying to hone your drone piloting skills to next level.
In this app you will be given stages/courses to complete starting from basic stage like hovering at a location to more complex mission as you progress in the app. You will not only be completing the stage by reaching the waypoints but will also be ranked base on the time taken to complete the stage. Don't worry about the time in the beginning as you can always come back to a stage.
This app will work without Internet but to leverage the true potential of the app and compete against other drone pilots using this app (please note that you cellular service provider may charges extra depending on your data plan when using internet in cellular Edge/3G/4G mode). App also uses GPS extensively to execute a stage hence a good wide open area free of any obstructions with clear view of the sky is a must.
Also this app is not for people who are just learning how to fly a drone but more for people who already have basic skills like Hovering, Landing and Throttle and Directional control. With that being said its' not that beginners cannot use this app but it will not be recommended.
At this point this app has limitations like:1. Works only with 3DR IRIS+ drone only2. Tested only on devices like Nexus 9 tablet, Samsung Galaxy 6 phone and Samsung galaxy Note 2 3. Limited number of stages
While using this app always be considerate about other around you including wildlife. Always follow the FAA guidelines when flying your drone keeping this hobby safe and alive for all.
Few important things about this app:1. Always use this app in an open area with no obstructions like trees, hills etc. 2. Never use this app and fly drone in a location that might put you or others in harms way like flying over crowded area, near airports etc. 3. Never use this app and fly drone, which can create circumstances where there could be loss of equipment or life. 2. Use this app and fly drone only where flying drone is permitted as per FAA rules.3. Open area of minimum 360 square feet. For reference an area that is as long and as wide as the length of a football field4. Heading of your drone is very important for this app. Heading can be defined as the direction in which the front of the drone is pointing. For Iris+ it is the location where camera mount is provided (opposite to the LED indicator or the battery compartment opening). Based on the heading of the drone the app decides the location where to construct the stage/course. So do not put your drone facing an obstruction. If you did it accidentally then either exit the app or reset the stages using the reset option in the app.
